Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store, saw their slim hopes of promotion fade away, when they lost by seven wickets away at Barnard Castle 2nd XI in the NYSD 2nd division. Electing to bat first, Aycliffe were bowled out for a disappointing 115 after 46.2 overs. Darryn Bancroft (sponsored by Utility Warehouse) top scored with 31 and other contributions came from Adam Gittins (26 runs) and captain Luke Telford (16 runs). In reply Barnard Castle eased to a comfortable victory after 28.3 overs and the loss of five wickets with James Layfield-Carroll the main wicket taker with 3 for 27, Luke Telford and Jack Slatcher both chipped in with a wicket apiece. The win for Barnard Castle sees them jump above Aycliffe into 3rd place in the table with just one game left to play this season.
Aycliffe’s second team were blown away by newly promoted Billingham Synthonia 2nd team when they lost at home by nine wickets in the NYSD 4th division. The hosts were asked to bat first and were skittled for just 28, their lowest ever score in their short NYSD history, from 19.2 overs with Dave Wright top scoring with 14 runs. In reply Billingham hurried to victory in only 4.2 overs despite Dan Weldon taking the only wicket to fall.
