Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store had a brilliant six wicket victory at home to former Premier League Champions Redcar 1st XI in the NYSD 2nd division. After being asked to bat first, Redcar found the Aycliffe opening bowlers in superb form with Jack Slatcher (sponsored by Dean & Tina Greaves) taking a season’s best 5 for 45 and Michael Howe finishing with 4 for 52 as the visitors were dismissed for 111 from 29.1 overs. In reply, the homeside batted well with Adam Gittins (23 runs), Luke Telford (20 runs) and an unbeaten 26 from Chris Palmer seeing their side home to an excellent win after 33.3 overs.

On the Friday evening, Newton Aycliffe’s 1st team advanced to the semi-finals of the Brunton Cup with a tense victory by four runs at home to Wolviston 1st XI.

Electing to bat first the home side scored 109 for 6 in their 20 overs with good contributions from Jack Slatcher (18 runs), Luke Telford (17 runs) and Michael Howe (16 runs).

In reply, Aycliffe bowled well to restrict the visitors to 105 for 7 from their 20 overs with Jack Slatcher, Luke Telford and Patrick Howe all taking a couple of wickets each.

The U15’s were well beaten at home to Sedgefield by nine wickets. Batting first Aycliffe were restricted to 59 for 6 in their 20 overs with Lucas Pilling scoring 18 runs and Kyle Cuthbertson scoring 12 runs. In reply the visitors easily reached their winning target after 10.3 overs with Jak Kennedy taking the only wicket to fall.

The U13’s team put in a tremendous performance and were desperately unlucky to lose a dramatic game off the very last ball away at Stockton in the NYACC league. After being asked to bat, Aycliffe scored a respectable 85 for 4 in their allotted 20 overs thanks to an excellent innings from Charlie Cayless, who top scored with 20 from 22 balls, including three boundaries. There were also good innings from Aycliffe’s David Robinson (17 off 48 balls), Leo Mercy (10 off 29 balls) and a vital six not out from seven balls at the end by Jack Paylor. In a tense finale, the homeside reached their winning target off the last ball to give them victory by six wickets.

The U11’s lost by 70 runs away at Sedgefield but despite the defeat there were good individual performances from Aycliffe’s Thomas Dearden, who not only took 3 wickets for 8 runs, but also had 3 direct run outs and Daniel Heaton who top scored with 15 runs.
