Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club sponsored by Lift Right Fork Lift Training played their inaugural match in the prestigious NYSD league, when the club’s second team travelled to Seaton Carew for their Sunday division 2 clash. However things didnt go to plan as Aycliffe, who elected to bat first, struggled to get any momentum in their innings due to a number of stoppages for rain. Only Chris Palmer managed to reach double figures with a decent innings of 33 as Aycliffe were eventually bowled out for just 70 after 35.2 overs.
In reply the home team coasted to victory with Aycliffe captain John Gledhill taking the only wicket to fall as they were defeated by 9 wickets. It was a tough start for the young Aycliffe team, but they will be looking to bounce back when they entertain Darlington RA on Sunday 21st April start time is 1.15pm. The first team will be hoping to get off to a flyer when they begin their season on Saturday 20th April at 1pm when they host Yarm at Moore Lane.
The club are still very keen to recruit boys and girls of primary school age to bolster their under 11’s squad and any interested youngster is asked to contact either Malcolm Dawes (07989 093946) or Lee Weldon (07759 754959) for more details.
