Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team team sponsored by Franks The Flooring Store had a very disappointing defeat by 119 runs at home to Wolviston 1st team in the NYSD 2nd division. The visitors chose to bat first and scored an impregnable 238 for 9 in their 50 overs with the wickets shared by John Cavanagh (3 for 31), Colin Myers (3 for 58) and Michael Howe (2 for 33). In reply Aycliffe were skittled for only 119 after 36 overs, with only Michael Howe (sponsored by Yvonne and Bob Wood). who top scored with 37, Graham Telford (24 runs) and Luke Telford (16 runs) emerging with credit.
An under strength second team lost away at Wolviston 2nd XI by 6 wickets in the NYSD 3rd division. Batting first Aycliffe were bowled out for just 115 after 45.5 overs with only Adam Gittins (sponsored by Phoenix Energy) top scoring with 37, Dan Bowmer (28 runs) and Danny Weldon (11 runs) reaching double figures. In reply the homeside raced to victory taking just 25 overs to reach 116, despite some excellent bowling from Jack Slatcher who took 3 for 44 from 11 overs.
The club’s under 13’s team (photo above) had an excellent five wicket win away at Darlington RA. The homeside batted first and scored a challenging 93 for 4 in their 20 overs with Josh Weldon the pick of the Aycliffe bowlers taking 2 for 19 from 4 overs. In reply good batting from captain Lucas Pilling (15 runs), Joe Bowsher (11 runs) and John Grey (11 runs) put Aycliffe in a good position. Ali Abbasi (17 not out) and Luke Patterson (9 not out) then carried on the good work and batted superbly at the end to see their side home to victory with 16 balls in hand.
The u11’s lost at home to a very strong Stockton team, however the Aycliffe youngsters continue to improve. Captain Leo Mercy, Nathan Slater and Francis Humble all took a wicket and Humble and Iain Robson also each held a good catch. When Aycliffe batted, runs were hard to come by, however Harry Wright made it look easy when he top scored with 11.
