Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team team sponsored by Lift Right Fork Lift Training entertained Bishop Auckland 1st XI, who are two divisions higher than Aycliffe, in the quarter final of the league cup and were beaten by 5 wickets.
Batting first, Aycliffe scored a creditable 103 for 2 in their 20 overs with opening batsman Luke Telford scoring an excellent unbeaten 53 and he was given good support from both Adam Gittins (24 runs) and Chris Palmer (19 not out). In reply Bishop Auckland reached their target in the 18th over despite some good bowling from both Luke Telford and Michael Howe with two wickets each.
Newton Aycliffe 2nd team were unfortunate not to win away at Stokesley 3rd team after a fighting performance saw them lose by just 3 wickets in the NYSD Sunday 2nd division. Batting first, Aycliffe’s opening batsman Nathan Blakeburn was unlucky not to reach a deserved half century as he was dismissed for a career best 49.
16 year old Ben Nicholson continued the momentum, also hitting a career best score, as he made 60, hitting six boundaries and two sixes. Captain John Gledhill smashed two huge sixes and hit 3 boundaries in a late order cameo of 26, which helped push his team to 185 all out after 43.5 overs. In reply two wickets each from Tom Wickins, Dan Craggs and Kyle Robinson was not quite enough as the home side reached their victory target in the 36th over.
Newton Aycliffe’s under 18s lost at home to championship hopefuls Tudhoe by 71 runs despite Patrick Howe’s career best bowling figures of 4 for 12 and good innings from both Craig Robertson (21 runs) and Ben Nicholson (18 runs).
The under 15s team had a tremendous 12 run victory at home to Brandon with Adam Lamb again top scoring with 18 runs and also good contributions from Josh Pearson with 16 runs and Sam Dobinson who finished on 14 not out.
The club’s under 13’s had a brilliant 5 run win away at Blackhall thanks to an excellent all round performance from the in form Adam Lamb who took two wickets and then top scored with 14 runs. There were also good contributions with the bat from both Usman Abbassi with 12 runs, Daniel Bowmer with 11 and Arran Taylor who scored 10.
The club’s under 11’s had an excellent 34 run victory away at Billingham Synthonia with good contributions coming from captain Nathan Parry (2 wickets and 16 not out), Oliver Brass (2 wickets) and Lucas Pilling (9 not out and 2 catches).
