Newton Aycliffe’s 1st team, sponsored by Lift Right Fork Lift Training played their final match in the North East Durham League and were disappointed to lose a tight game at home to Belmont by just 3 wickets.
Electing to bat first Aycliffe struggled to get any momentum in their innings and only four players managed to reach double figures. Joe Haines top scored with an unbeaten 29 and other contributions came from Chris Palmer (26 runs), Sean Morgan (14 runs) and Dan Weldon who scored 10 runs as Aycliffe were dismissed for just 120 after 36 of their alloted 45 overs.
In reply, the visitors were pegged back after a superb spell of bowling from Sean Morgan, who took 4 for 28 from 12 overs, briefly gave Aycliffe hope. However Belmont eventually edged to victory after 37.3 overs as Aycliffe finished their league season in 8th place in division one with 146 points.
The next day Aycliffe’s first team travelled to Aldbrough St John CC to play Barton in the final of the Fenwick cup and were beaten by a much superior team by 92 runs.
The club’s under 11’s team finished their season with a defeat away at Norton despite another excellent bowling performance from Ali Abbasi, who took 3 wickets for just 4 runs from his three overs.
