Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store had their third win in a row after a comfortable six wicket victory away at Maltby 1st XI in the NYSD 2nd division. The home side were asked to bat first and were skittled for 110 after 35.1 overs with Michael Howe the chief destroyer taking 4 for 40, his younger brother Patrick also bowled well finishing with 3 for 6 and Jack Slatcher chipped in with 2 for 46. Special mention must go to Adam Gittins (sponsored by Pheonix Energy) who held onto three catches in the Maltby innings taking his seasonal total to 21 catches, which is a new first team record for the most outfield catches in a season. In reply opener Darryn Bancroft had a welcome return to form when he top scored for Aycliffe with 39 off 34 balls. When he was dismissed, Jack Slatcher with 29 not out and an unbeaten 26 from Adam Gittins safely saw the visitors to victory after 25.1 overs and with six wickets in hand.
The second team stretched their unbeaten run to three games after a high scoring draw at home to Maltby 2nd team in the NYSD 4th division. Electing to bat first Aycliffe piled up the runs and finished with an impressive 226 for 6 declared after 35 overs. Lewis Gimple (61 off 63 balls), Neil Bancroft (47 off 30 balls) and Ryan Patrick (35 off 44) all batted well for the homeside. In reply, Lewis Gimple took 3 for 21 and Neil Bancroft, George Slatcher and Dan Weldon all chipped in with a wicket each, but Maltby held on for a draw as their innings closed on 160 for 6 after 45 overs.
The u13’s had one of the biggest wins in their history when they hammered Barnard Castle by 100 runs at home in the NYACC Cup. Batting first Aycliffe scored an impressive 126 for 1 in their allotted 20 overs thanks to excellent innings from Matty Greaves (33 not out), Leo Mercy (32 not out) and Charlie Cayless (24 runs). In reply the visitors were skittled for just 25 after 10.1 overs with Matty Greaves (3 for 0), Jai Sander (2 for 2) and Charlie Cayless (2 for 6) starring with the ball for Aycliffe.
