Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store had their fourth win in succession to help maintain their outside chance of promotion when they beat Marske 2nds at home by a huge 128 runs in the NYSD 2nd division. Electing to bat first, Aycliffe scored 201 all out after 47.1 overs thanks to good innings from Adam Gittins (61 runs) (sponsored by Pheonix Energy), Darryn Bancroft (41 runs) and Chris Palmer (38 runs). In reply the visitors got off to a good start and at 37 for 0, looked set to challenge their target score. However an extraordinary batting collapse saw Marske lose eight wickets for just four runs to leave them on 41 for 8. The chief destroyers for Aycliffe were Jack Slatcher, who took 5 for 34 and Michael Howe (3 for 12). The visitors were eventually dismissed for 73 after 31.3 overs when captain Luke Telford brought himself on to bowl and quickly mopped up the tail taking the last two wickets for just ten runs. With only four games left to play, Aycliffe remain in 3rd place with 297 points, 21 points behind 2nd place Middlesbrough, who we play on the final game of the season.
Our u13’s lost their final game of the season at home to Darlington by eight wickets in the NYACC Cup. Batting first Aycliffe scored 54 for 6 in their 20 overs with Charlie Cayless top scoring with ten runs. In reply Darlington easily reached their winning target after 11 .5 overs despite a wicket each for both Harrison Pearson and Matty Greaves. There were three debutants in the u13’s team tonight and all in their first year of playing league cricket, so a big well done to Alfie Spensley, AJ Wild and Harry Palmer who all performed well in their first u13’s appearance.
The u11’s played well but still lost their final game of the season away at Norton by 16 runs in the NYACC Cup. There were good batting performances from Alfie Spensley, Dan Heaton and Harrison Pearson, who all scored seven runs each. Special mention must go Trent Telford, who was only playing his second game and also to debutant Jack Connors, as both players performed superbly.
