Newton Aycliffe Scout Supporters Association thank everyone who came to our Classic Car and Vintage Caravan weekend.
The weekend started with the arrival of the Classic Caravans on Friday, after setting up and having a catch up, some of the members joined the Scout supporters in our new bar/lounge area and had a relaxing evening.
On Saturday they did the Aycliffe Walk seeing a little of our town which gave them all a healthy appetite for Saturday evening when they enjoyed a great BBQ as the rain started. They joined us in the bar to listen and sing along with the fabulous Keith Morrison who is an accomplished guitarist, singer and songwriter. His talent was met by thunderous applause from the storm outside that night with slightly quieter applause from the audience – thank you Keith you were very much appreciated.
The rain did not dampen anyone’s spirits and after a good night’s rest we were all back again to enjoy the display of classic cars. Unfortunately not as many turned up as in previous years but a good and interesting display nevertheless.
There was a small hic-cup as when the caravaner’s rose and went to use the facilities it was realised the cleaner had been and triple locked the building meaning access was denied to the toilets – a quick phone rectified this with expectation of being killed in the rush!
Newton Aycliffe Scout Supporters Association would like to thank the Mayor of Great Aycliffe Mary Dalton and her consort Michael who kindly came to our social club on Saturday evening and returned on Sunday morning to officially open the car show, the President of the Rotary Club Denese Cartwright and her husband Alan for judging the show and presenting the trophies to the class winners. Also to Syd Howarth from Newton News who photographed the event and gave his support, Keith Morrison for the fabulous evening, Aycliffe Decorating and Paint supplies for donating some paint for the foyer, 1st Newton Aycliffe Scout group for catering on the day, The Navy Club for allowing the use of their car park, and to everyone who bought raffle tickets – we raised £86.00. Lastly but not least, Paul Jackson from The Northern Bygones Society for organising the Show.
