Residents of St Mary’s and Shafto Ward, I am delighted to notify you that at last Mr Furber’s crumbling wall is being repaired. I am pleased to say well done to Livin for getting the wall replaced.
My next job is to find a longer term solution to the large HGV lorries delivering to MacColls, as the tarmac pavement has been repaired three times in the last five years.
I also hope that County Councillors Nev Jones and Jim Atkinson for East Aycliffe will continue to lobby for the speedy installation of a seriously needed pedestrian crossing on Central Avenue, between Woodham Academy and Vane Road School.
Combined they have 1300 pupils and at peak times it will also make it safer for parents taking pushchairs to St Oswald’s Pre-school, as well as helping the many OAPs and some special needs adults too.
I was disappointed to see one erected outside Gestamp, near to our MPs office (when Gestamp have enough money to install their own crossing). No schools or housing is present and therefore very few children, elderly or disabled people cross there and most employees drive a car or cycle to work at Gestamp.
Enjoy the Town Councils’ fireworks display and, not far away now, Santa tours. I’ve volunteered to be one of the white bearded heroes!
