A few months ago, several residents living in Stanfield Road asked for my assistance in resolving a number of problems including off-road parking (chewing up the grassed areas in the never-ending inclement weather) and the continued deterioration of the road surface.in
As a Great Aycliffe Residents’ Association committee member, I liaised with the committee, then organised a fact finding survey involving many residents, asking for feedback.
I contacted DCC about the road surface and had been told that the road had been inspected annually and was on schedule for repairs (one, five or ten years).
Whilst GARA can do little about the off road parking situation, I am pleased to note that Durham County Council has listened to GARA and the concerns of those residents of Stanfield Road who contacted me.
The DCC have resurfaced the entire road which has made a real difference to the general environment. I wish to thank Durham County Council for carrying out this work, especially so at a time when all County budgets are under such pressure.
Finally, remember that GARA aims to ensure that all residents within the Parish of Great Aycliffe have a voice within their community and that their aspirations are fairly represented and acted upon.
Several of us, elected onto GARA, are also councillors. but we are non-political and seek to work with all other organisations and bodies.
