Lord Foster of Bishop Auckland, PC, DL former MP for Newton Aycliffe and the Mayor of Great Aycliffe, Mary Dalton, with Consort Val Raw, took time out last week to reminisce on days of yesteryear and to inspect the “ Newtonian “ which ran on the town in the 1970’s.
“The Newtonian” and the “Heartbeat” bus were on display at Locomotion, Shildon in support of a two day conference held to raise awareness of the 200th anniversary of the Stockton to Darlington Railway in 2025. The event attracted representatives from a wide range of North East agencies and it is hoped that this will help act as the catalyst to achieving World Heritage Site status, sponsored by UNESCO, in time for the 200th anniversary event.
