On Saturday 18th November, residents in the Western Area were invited to dispose of any unwanted rubbish free of charge, to help clean up their community.
Ward Brothers’ Skip Hire provided a number of skips at a discounted rate and despite the cold, people really rallied round to make the most of the opportunity for a clear out. A huge 2.5 tonnes of rubbish was collected on the day!
The community clean up came about following door to door consultation where residents identified that rubbish in the area was a problem. PCP worked with Councillors Kate Hopper, and Eddie Adam, Durham County Council and livin, funding was secured… then it was over to residents to fill up the skips.
The Fire Service and Police were on hand to help local residents, particularly with some of the larger items.
Carol Gaskarth, PCP Chief Executive explained, “This is a great example of organisations working together with communities to take simple but important steps to improve their environment.”
“Individual health and wellbeing is very much affected by where we live and their surroundings and people like to take pride in their local area. PCP consultation in the Western Area is ongoing and we are keen to hear any ideas or thoughts on the community generally.”
