Great Aycliffe Town Council launched their new Community Recognition Award Scheme earlier this year.
The Council developed the scheme to provide a means of recognising and acknowledging the dedication, commitment and outstanding contribution that nominated individuals make to improve and promote the Parish of Great Aycliffe.
Local resident Mr. Brian Nichol was nominated for his charitable fundraising work within the parish and was invited to the Council Offices for a presentation of a medal and certificate.
The Mayor, Councillor Ken Robson, presented the award and congratulated Brian on his hard work and dedication commenting, “Brian Nichol is an unassuming Newton Aycliffe Hero. For many years Brian used his home to put on Christmas and Halloween events, raising money for the Great North Air Ambulance fund.
Brian is a friendly chap who uses his spare time to raise funds by using his photography skills to help people. I first met Brian working with the men’s Cree group who built a workshop for the Pioneering Care Centre garden.”
Mr. Nichol was clearly very moved by the presentation and thanked everyone involved for the nomination and award.
