From Pipe Bands, flying ants, to rats the size of cats on a New York subway, Around Town was out and about this week when we took the opportunity to pay The Newton Aycliffe Pipe Band a visit for a catch up, and to meet some of the new members who recently joined the band. It was also a special occasion as we presented the band members with the Around Town Radio Show Community Award for their work in raising the town’s profile throughout the region. Not to let a good opportunity pass us by, we also arranged for two of the band members to be our guest on Around Town in the coming weeks when their busy schedule allows.
Sunday’s show had Colin McNeillie and his music as our guest on the first half of the show. Colin continues to work hard to raise people’s awareness of Alzheimers and Dementia and raising money for vital research in the process. On the second half of the show we had local pest control expert Brian Sowerby as our guest, as we discussed all manner of local pest related problems, to rats the size of cats in New York subways, flying ants in such large numbers across the country they show up on airport radar as a flying hazard.
Our good friend Dan of Illumination wall art called in to present Andy and myself with an original piece of artwork that will take pride of place on display in the studio. Dan also agreed to put his extensive talents to good use by agreeing to design the front cover of my latest book ‘A Story of Many Voices’ which, when published, will help to raise some funds for the local charity All Disabilities Matter CIC.
