The process to appoint a permanent Chief Constable for Durham has been launched. The new Police and Crime Commissioner for Durham, Ron Hogg, is one of a number around the country currently looking to recruit to their most senior post.
As a police force area Durham offers a unique blend of policing challenges with a adiverse range of communities, and a population of approximately 618,800. Geographically, the area is predominantly rural with half of residents living in settlements of less than 10,000 people. Darlington, in the south of the Force area, is the largest town.
Talking about the Chief Constable vacancy, Mr Hogg said: “As the first Police and Crime Commissioner for Durham. I am seeking to appoint a highly motivated individual to help me deliver my vision of achieving excellence in local policing and the highest levels of public confidence. I aim to do this by working alongside communities and partners to address what matters locally. The person appointed will have the professional policing skills and experience necessary to lead Durham Constabulary in maintaining and approving on its high performance”.
The appointment is expected to be made on the 28th January 2013 and will be subject to a confirmation hearing by the Police and Crime Panel.
