Pupils from St. Francis and Byerley Park schools have painted and potted a plant for each of the 22 new homes at Greenwood Court, the new estate on the site of the former Greenfield Nursing Home.
The children really enjoyed making something special and felt it was a good idea to make people welcome to their new home and area. This project was made possible with support from local companies: Livin paid for the pots and plants, Wilkinson’s Aycliffe store supplied paints and varnish and Windlestone Nurseries supplied the compost free and the plants at cost price.
The children at St. Francis were assisted by staff from Wilkinson’s and Livin showing a further commitment from these local companies. When Chairman Philip Clark thought of the project he assumed the cost would come out of the Horndale Residents Association funds and was overwhelmed by the generosity and enthusiasm of everyone who helped to bring this idea to completion. “The Residents Association are grateful to the children and local companies and believe the new Residents will appreciate the lovely pots and the gesture” said Phillip.
