Bishop Auckland College has received a top equality award for its efforts to promote equality and diversity and achieve fairness in the workplace.
It is only the second college in the region to receive the Equality Standard Gold Award from Equality North East.
Award criteria includes leadership commitment to equality, policies and procedures that actively promote equality, and promotion of a diverse culture.
Liz Reay, Chief Executive of Equality North East, said: “We were so impressed at the work being carried out by Bishop Auckland College to embed equality. They go that extra mile to ensure fairness for their students and staff. The college is a worthy recipient of the Equality Standard ‘Gold Award’ – congratulations!”
Principal and Chief Executive Natalie Davison added: “I am delighted to announce that the college has received the Equality Standard ‘Gold’ Award from Equality North East. Achievement of this award is based on evidence of promotion and monitoring of equality and diversity activity within all aspects of college life – both as an employer and with students.
“Bishop Auckland College, believe in providing every individual with the opportunity to achieve their potential, and we really value the richness of ideas that diversity brings. As one of only two colleges in the region achieving the award, this is confirmation we lead the field in this area. I’d like to thank all staff who have contributed to this achievement.”
