The popular Newton Aycliffe community pub is scaling new heights with its programme of fundraising events. Cobblers Hall on Burnhill Way is building on the success of manager Ian Gore’s 9,600 ft climb up Kilimanjaro in 2011 with a raft of new charity activities.
Ian is now planning a trek up to Mount Everest base camp in April 2013 as part of a larger campaign to donate £10,000 to local charity ‘Take A Day Out’ which provides respite for carers of special needs children.
While he prepares Ian and the Cobblers Hall team have not been taking life easy. Five regular customers along with keyholder Scott Adams recently enjoyed a sponsored parachute jump, raising £2,100.
Over the next few months, this will be followed a dramatic zip wire over the River Tyne in Newcastle during October and a Barefoot Glass Walk. Another highlight will be the Drag Queen evening featuring vocal and comedy performances from Tess Tickle and Emma Roid in December.
Ian and his wife Collette arrived at the pub in 2009 and have been swift to get behind ‘Take A Day Out’. Collette said, “one of our regular customers runs the charity and will also be taking on the Everest challenge. We just want to help them and know our regular customers will join in. We are lucky to have such a generous and supportive local community.”
The Cobblers Hall is a spacious, open plan layout, with an extensive food menu available from noon to 9pm, Monday to Saturday and until 8pm on Sunday. There is room for 100 diners and the pub is known for its Sunday quiz night and poker every Tuesday.
