Well done to the Aycliffe bikers who completed the Morecambe to Saltburn Coast to Coast ride on 2nd August in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Despite the inclement weather they all arrived safely even though they were a bit wet, dirty and bruised. The support team they had on the way has to be congratulated as well for keeping spirits up with plenty of food and water. Thanks also to the families who turned up to welcome them at the finishing line. All the lads live in Newton Aycliffe and work locally – Jeff, David and Chris have been friends since school days and despite holding down full time jobs have still managed to train on weekends and evenings.
The coast to Coast was 103 miles long which took them 11 hours to complete (including breaks). Jeff said the hardest part was over the tops from Morecambe to Leyburn where they battled with the wind.
The rain started at Catterick and in between the odd sunny spell (which allowed their clothes to partially dry out) they made it. Macmillan Cancer Support was chosen by them as the lads all know someone affected by cancer and thought it a well worth cause. They are looking forward to doing it again next year with maybe a few more participants.
