Two weeks ago the town’s Rotary Club After Dinner Speaker was Nick Smith who talked about his Steam Machine Brewery in Aycliffe and brought samples for members to taste. Ironically last week’s speaker was Val Fawcett from a new organisation Aycliffe Alcohol Recovery Mutual Support (AARMS), being formed in Newton Aycliffe to help people addicted to alcohol. The friendly group are nonjudgemental, non-medical and non-religious. You do not have to be abstinent from drink to attend. The group exists to support each other in attempting to beat addiction. Meetings are very informal and confidential where people of all ages and backgrounds share experiences and explore ways of reducing and abstaining from alcohol. The group meet socially in Tesco’s Meeting Room each Thursday from 11am – 1pm. Tesco kindly loan out the room to community organisations free of charge. Anyone wanting help to tackle this addiction and attend the weekly meetings can contact Val on Mobile 07921 816549 for more information.
