Dear Sir,
I don’t want to appear petty, but who was responsible for that closing ceremony?
The t.v. programme “2012” poked fun at the Olympic organisers but even that understated the case. I don’t mean the G4S security debacle, but who thought it was a good idea to wheel out pop stars needing a boost to their careers as an example of the Olympic ideal?
After 2 weeks of competitive sport 99% free from drugs a new generation of role models for young people seemed to be emerging, Mo, Bradley, Jessica, Rebecca and others.
Then came the closing ceremony including the likes of Kate Moss, best known for falling out of nightclubs drunk or worse. George Michael (yes I know he’s been ill) best known for doing everything we warn our kids against. Naomi Campbell in the news for mixing with African tyrants and attacking anyone she doesn’t like. Russell Brand well known for making obscene phone calls.
If all the “stars” that appeared at the closing ceremony had been tested for drugs, how many of them would have been positive? If that had prevented them from appearing then the closing ceremony would have been a whole lot shorter, but much more meaningful!
