Dear Sir,

Could somebody help me as I’m very confused.

I contacted Durham County Council regarding wood burners and their effect on climate and was told they are ‘Carbon Neutral’ which I assume to mean you grow a tree and then burn it and new trees will absorb the carbon released from burning.

My problem comes with the time to grow a tree and the time it takes to burn it.

Election parties are saying they are going to plant millions of trees to try and reduce the amount of carbon in the atmosphere but where does that fit in with the growing trend to put in wood burners.

To add to my confusion the old part of the town is a smokeless zone but the new part is not.

I’m sure there must be an environmental expert who can clarify the situation for me.

Regards

D Williamson
