Sedgefield 75 swimming club’s latest excursion was to Stanley last weekend for the annual Derwentside Swimming Club Christmas Cracker Meet. 12 clubs from the North East competed, not just for times and medals but also the added bonus of a selection box for each heat winner!

Charlotte Lee had a fantastic competition as she set new personal bests in all five of her races including over five seconds off her 100m breaststroke and almost ten seconds off her 200m breaststroke in which she won the bronze medal.

Chloe Harding swam in four events including 100m individual medley in which she made an improvement of over four seconds.

Filip Wilczynski had a busy weekend, swimming in ten events which proved very productive for him winning two gold, two silvers and three bronze medals across a range of strokes and distances and set seven new PBs.

Ellis Dickinson swam a huge PB in 50m freestyle, taking 8.4 seconds off and followed up with a fantastic first backstroke swim over 50m, finishing inside his target time of 60 seconds.

Kathryn Lee won silver at 200m backstroke, one of six events that she swam in.

Charlie McEwan also picked up silver in 50m freestyle, breaking 30 seconds for the first time in the process and hit another good PB in the 100m.

Emma Price took five golds out of five setting four PBs in the process, the highlight being a 21 seconds PB at 200m breaststroke.

The Turnbull brothers, Oliver and Lewis, both returned with a 100% PB success rate with Lewis taking one and two seconds from his 50m freestyle and backstroke bests. Oliver sliced between 0.7 and 4.7 seconds from PBs in his five events.

Matthew Wimbury swam two races over 50m, freestyle and breaststroke, setting PBs in both and securing Northumberland & Durham County Championship times as well as bronze in the breaststroke.

Another to achieve County qualification time was Tom Curran at 200m freestyle with a 3.8 second PB. It was a hat-trick of PBs at freestyle as he also improved over 50 and 100m.
