During the summer holidays the children from Woodham Burn Out of School Club visited Tesco for a ‘Farm to Fork Trail’ to find out where our food really comes. The session was organised by Tesco and is free of charge to groups like ours.
We were greeted by Vicky who led the interactive, educational and fun activities. The children had the opportunity to sniff, touch, make and taste their way through the intriguing world of food. They made bread rolls, had a mini treasure hunt around the fruit and vegetable aisle, finding out where items were grown, had a chance to taste a selection of cheeses and goats milk and learnt about the different types of fish sold at Tesco.
The children were shown behind the scenes of the store looking in the giant freezer, storage areas and staff areas. They also made fresh fruit desserts with a huge selection of fruit from the store which were delicious. The children’s comments were: Ted – “We went into the freezer it was really freezing! we saw where the fruit was and we made bread”.
Ella R: “Good and brilliant. I liked making the bread, pudding and then eating the pudding”.
Hollie: “I liked going into the freezer and I thought the lady cutting up the fish was great”.
A very BIG thank you to our local Tesco store for a fantastic visit, the children thoroughly enjoyed the session and loved the goody bags to take home.
