County Durham residents are being asked to check their voter registration details.
It’s all part of Durham County Council’s annual canvass to make sure every household’s voter registration details are up to date.
If the council holds an email address for any or all registered electors in a property, it will be sending an email to ask voters to check the information on them is accurate.
Where an email address is not available, forms have been delivered in the post.
Canvassers will then call at the homes of residents who are required to respond to help with the completion of the form.
Linda Spence, Durham County Council’s electoral services manager, said: “It’s important that residents check their form so we can make sure we have the right details on the electoral register for every address in County Durham. Where households are required to respond, our canvassers are required to do at least one door knock and leave a calling card if no one is home.
“All canvassers will have Durham County Council photo ID badges and we would encourage residents to check these before giving out any information. You need to be registered to vote to make sure you can have your say in elections. If you are not currently registered, your name will not appear on the form we send. The easiest way to register is online or you can contact our electoral services office and ask for a registration form to be sent in the post.”
The next scheduled elections for county and parish and town councils will take place on 1st May 2025.
Residents who have recently moved, or whose details are not included on the form, can register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
