Dear Sir,
A word to the wise regarding waste permits . . . I applied to Durham County Council for the proper waste permit to remove rubbish from my property, which duly arrived a few days later. I was then told by the workers at the recycle centre in Heighington Lane that if it isn’t on the permit list you cannot tip it!
I had my van loaded up with all the rubbish including old carpets that were listed on the permit, but at the recycle centre the council worker told me I could empty the van and dump the carpets, and anything else which was listed, but things not listed would be refused and have to go back in the van.
I rang the County Council who confirmed every single item has to be listed on the permit of what is being tipped. Next time I apply for one of these so called permits, I hope they have enough paper for me to list ALL my items.
In the end I took the carpet to a farmer I know and he put it on his bonfire. Talk about Council cut backs and jobsworth’s – no wonder people flytip .
