Members of Aycliffe Radio were in Aycliffe Town Centre last weekend for the Celebration of Christmas event held in conjunction with Aycliffe Town Centre Management.
Even though the weather was dry, it was freezing cold, but that didn’t deter many Newtonians and visitors who came along to see Santa in his grotto and watch the children from the SHINE choir and the wonderful harmonies of the MAD Choir.
Along with the antics of Professor Nincompoop on stage was Dene Michael from the legendary 80s group Black Lace as well as Jeni Jaye who tried their best to get the crowds up dancing and get them warmed up.
Santa also visited the Aycliffe Radio marquee and handed out selection boxes to all the children before leaving the town centre.
Community Spirit were also in the town centre, with Santa’s Grotto set up in the Community Shop and a queue of excited children waited in line to see him and Mrs Claus.
A quick break for the Aycliffe Radio team before heading over to the Big Club for the annual Xmas Live event.
The event had practically sold out, although those in attendance were wondering why there were so many empty seats in prime positions, which was put down to the virus currently doing the rounds.
Dene Michael and Jeni Jaye came with us to the Big Club and joined Cassandra Bowtell and Rhian Harrison and all sang and entertained with their renditions of Kylie, Madonna, Britney, Beyonce, Whitney, Arianna Grande, Little Mix, Tina Turner and Diana Ross.
JimJams hosted the event introducing various members of the Aycliffe Radio team who in turn introduced the artistes.
Aycliffe Radio would like to thank event sponsors ROF59 and Honest John and the Big Club for the use of the venue.
