You can’t stop the beat nor will you be able to stop your hands clapping if you come along to see the CATS (Youth Theatre Group) musical adaptation of “Hairspray” at the Civic Hall, Shildon this month.
The young people will be staging four shows on, Thursday 13th, Friday 14th, and Saturday 15th March at 7.30pm with a final performance on Sunday 16th March at 2pm.
Local thespians Madalyn Patrick plays the jolly Edna Turblad whilst her sister Grace is the quiet Penny Pingleton. Bethany Elgey stars as Motormouth Maybelle, Willow Selby – Willis and Sophie – Tilley Alexander both play the part of the ever joking Wilbur Turnblad. Sophie’s sister Bobby Jay plays the Matron of the Big Dollhouse. The bouncy Cain Harrison plays the radio host Corny Collins and Emily Neal the not-so-nice Velma Von Tussle.
Georgia Brown is the eccentric Mr. Pinky and also doubles as Motormouth Maybelle. Hannah Goddard is Thad one of the foreigners and Kodie-Leigh Wilson plays Seaweed . Poppy Burton is Motormouth’s Daughter, Inez.
Amongst the Dance Troupe are Elizabeth Timmiss, Lucy Elgey, Charlie Grayson and Sadie Clausen. Dance Choreographer of most of the 16 dances is Cain’s sister, Chloe Harrison whilst their cousin Jade Carney is the ever hard working Vocal Coach.
