I attended the relaunch in our town centre and my kids and I had an excellent time – well done to the town centre manager. There was a good natured crowd and no idiots, just lots of people like me with their family.
Yet when I read the Newton News I think I must have been somewhere else. You say you are not spiteful yet your front page complained you were not invited. It was a FREE event – anyone could go!
Your own paper highlighted the event the week before, and unlike other media which where completely positive about everything your only letter printed that I could find was a complaint about crowd control – yet I counted at least 4 security guards and also Police in attendance.
Isolated incidents do happen and I am sorry for the lady and her family. I doubt you will print this but at least take on board that our Town is now somewhere to be proud of, it has lots of open shops unlike other towns and more is still to happen next year according to the manager.
Perhaps support rather than constant carping should be the order of the day.

ED: Newton News support for the town centre is demonstrated by our concern for the people that make shopping possible there – the shopkeepers who have endured a very difficult time during the alterations and are now faced with an 85% increase in charges by the landlords.
We now know that the landlords deliberately excluded Newton News from the re-launch for daring to criticise their overcharging. We would call that caring not “carping”.
