During this season of goodwill, pupils from Stephenson Way Academy have been busy spreading Christmas cheer across Newton Aycliffe with a series of carol services around the town. Year 6 pupils and members of the school choir leapt at the chance to perform their favourite Christmas songs for an audience and so their tour began. Starting in Tesco, the singers serenaded shoppers with a host of merry tunes and as passers-by stopped to listen, many generously donated loose change, which was donated to Marie Curie Cancer Care.
The next port of call was Rose Lodge Care Home where children were joined by residents and staff in a good old-fashioned yuletide sing-along, crooning out classics such as Silent Night and O Come All Ye Faithful. Head girl Paige explained, “It was so lovely to be giving something back to our community and when people stopped to listen or join in it was extra special.”
The final performances of the festive season were hosted in school for friends and family, who all left with their Christmas spirits well and truly lifted. We’d like to extend our warmest Christmas wishes to all those who have supported us this year and look forward to sharing many more memories in 2018.
