Dogs Trust Darlington is appealing for a dedicated dog lover to be a temporary foster carer for one of its canine residents who has recently undergone surgery to his tail.
Jim, a medium-sized crossbreed, came to Dogs Trust Darlington about a month ago after being found as a stray. Sadly he had to have part of his tail removed and is urgently looking for a temporary foster home where he can chill out away from kennel life, without too much disturbance, to allow his tail to heal.
Sue Embleton, Dogs Trust Darlington Rehoming Centre Manager, explains:
“Volunteer foster carers on our Home from Home scheme provide a lifeline for dogs who need some extra TLC. Some dogs cope with kennel life better than others, but for those who struggle or like Jim are recovering from surgery, being in a temporary home can make all the difference, helping them to relax and aid their adjustment into a new home. Families will receive our full support and advice, and will be equipped with everything they need such as food, bedding. Any vet fees will also be covered by Dogs Trust. If you’re an experienced dog owner, have lots of free time, and live locally to the rehoming centre, please get in touch if you can help.”
“All dogs on the Home from Home scheme need to be cared for during the day and not left for longer than four hours – Jim is so friendly and cuddly but he needs to be constantly distracted from aggravating his tail injury. Ideally we’re looking for people who don’t have young children and no other dogs, to give his tail a chance to heal.”
The Dogs Trust Home from Home initiative is designed to give extra care to dogs that find kennel life stressful or have not had much experience of living in a home environment. These dogs, so often overlooked by prospective owners, are given a safe and loving, temporary home until they feel back to their happy selves and are ready for a permanent home of their own. They may be puppies, older dogs or dogs that aren’t coping in a kennel environment and need some special care to get their tails wagging again!

Dogs Trust Darlington cares for around 120 abandoned and unwanted dogs at any one time.
