On 19th September CrossFit All Out athlete and Coach Vicki Finn Smith aged 35, flew to Cyprus with her husband and Coach Stewart Smith and two close friends, Rich and Sam Gates, who are also members at CrossFit All Out. She took part in The Aphrodite Games, a 3-day CrossFit competition from 20th to 22nd September, in which she qualified in third place. She competed in the Masters Women 35-39 category and over the 3 days Vicki fought her way through 9 tough workouts. Some of these included heavy barbell cycling, a 100m handstand walk, ring muscle ups, cut off rope climbs, strict handstand push ups and dumbbell burpee box step overs.
After missing her flight and arriving late to her destination, Vicki battled her way through her first event early the following day which was a 4000m run, a 500m swim and a sprint to the finish line for time. She was able to complete this in a time of 31:30; setting her up for a successful weekend ahead. One of her highlights from the weekend was hitting a one rep max thruster personal best of 75KG; a second place finish in this event. Vicki was able to hold her own against some superb athletes, one of them being a CrossFit Games masters athlete and after all 9 workouts Vicki landed herself a spot on the podium finishing in third place overall; a fantastic achievement showing that she is able to compete with the best in the world.
She said, “I was thrilled to place Third at The Aphrodite Games, it was a great experience competing against a CrossFit Games athlete. I loved the event as a whole, it was very well organised! My best two workouts included the lift where I hit a 1RM thruster personal best and a workout containing barbell cycling with rowing and heavy DT (a CrossFit benchmark workout).”
Head Coach Terry Anderson said “Vicki is a fantastic asset to the box and an inspiration to many. We are excited to see her competing internationally at such a high standard and will continue to support her in the future. All members are fellow Coaches and are proud of the effort Vicki continues to put in to her training daily.”
