Musical theatre fans can enjoy the magic of the West End in the heart of County Durham this year, including special dementia friendly film screenings.
Kinky Boots – The Musical, The Chicago Blues Brothers, Singin’ in the Rain, Oklahoma! – The Gala Theatre and Cinema’s spring programme is packed full of spectacular show tunes.
Kinky Boots – The Musical is set to dazzle and delight on Thursday 4 February at 7pm and Sunday 9 February at 3pm. The show sees factory owner Charlie join forces with the fabulous entertainer Lola to create a line of sturdy stilettos unlike any the world has ever seen. Filmed live at London’s Adelphi Theatre, the cinematic screening captures all the energy of the West End performance, transporting audiences from the factory floor of Northampton to the glamorous catwalks of Milan.
Tickets cost £15, £13 for concessions and £10 for Gala members.
Robin Byers, Gala Theatre manager, said: “By hosting touring productions and theatrical screenings we can provide even more choice to the people of County Durham, ensuring they don’t have to leave the region to experience the wonders of the West End.”
Other upcoming musical highlights include The Cabaret Café on Sunday 9 February. Presented by the Gala Theatre Stage School, the latter will take the audience on a journey through musical history, from the works of Cole Porter to present day successes such as Hamilton.
And later in the year, from Tuesday 19 to Saturday 23 May, Durham Musical Theatre Company will bring Chess the Musical to the Gala stage.
