Aycliffe Village Primary School has just received notice that it has been awarded the International School Award for its work in developing international links and global citizenship as part of the education the school offers its pupils.
Over the last two terms, Staff have been developing links with Angelina Lia Rolfsen School in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Pupils have sent work to the pupils of the school, depicting life here at Aycliffe Village. We have also received work from the Brazilian children showing life in Sao Paulo.
Over the course of a week, visitors from two schools in Brazil visited us and our local partner schools, Shincliffe Primary and Langley Moor Primary. The visitors were treated to an excellent display of singing and recorder playing by our pupils.
Later in the term staff from Aycliffe Village Primary School will visit Brazil to further develop the links established and arrange, with the Brazilian Teachers, a collaborative work programme for all schools to enjoy. With the Olympics just a year away, this is an exciting time for the school to be developing these links with the Brazilian pupils. The staff have seen from other programmes in the past how much the pupils get from such collaboration.
In addition to the Brazilian partnership, links have also been established with a school near Amien in France.
