On Thursday 7th November, Peter Dunnington-Waters, a student in Year 7 at Greenfield Community College, travelled to St James Park in Newcastle in a pink limo to receive a “Brave Hearts of the North East” award.
Peter spent time in hospital throughout most of Year 6, whilst he attended Sugar Hill Primary School  and received this award for his bravery during this time. His best friend, Tyler Claughton, who is also in Year 7 at Greenfield accompanied Peter to the ceremony, where the award was presented by Josef Craig, a Paralympic Swimmer who won Gold at the 2012 Olympics.
Peter said “I was over the moon to receive the award, and surprised to be nominated!” He has plans to build a special cabinet at home to house the award, which is shaped like a book in honour of the first recipient of the award, Joanne Gillespie.
Greenfield are pleased that Peter’s bravery has been recognised in this way, and hope he continues to thrive and enjoy every opportunity on offer over the next five years.
