Hollie Williams, a 12-year-old girl from Newton Aycliffe, and her friend Hannah Griesse undertook a two hour public swimming session in aid of a charity that has supported Hollie and her younger brother, Thomas, Caudwell Children, a national charity gives practical and emotional support to disabled children and their families. They provided Hollie, who has Cystic Fibrosis, with a specialist buggy and a dream holiday, to Florida, when she was younger.
Hollie organised the swim, for her and friends, at Spennymoor and Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre. The swim, overseen by Hollie’s mother, Angela, was on Wednesday 19th April and the two girls raised £!90 in sponsorship money. Hollie wanted to give something back to Caudwell so being a confident swimmer took on this fundraising challenge. Although swimming for two hours Hollie, and her friends, can take a break for a few minutes when they get tired. The staff at the pool have allocated Hollie, a pupil at Woodham Academy, a dedicated lane for her swim. Mum Angela said: “She is determined to raise as much as possible so that the charity can help even more families,” said Angela
. Any money we raise will help provide a range of specialist equipment, therapies and treatments to disabled children and it will also help send more children on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Florida.” “Thanks to all who sponsored the girls including the staff at Select who are so nice to our family. Our thanks also to the Leisure Centre staff for the use of the pool.” To add to the sponsorship money contact Angela on 07501 464949.
