Two Rotary-backed, boxbased schemes to improve the health of some of the world’s poorest people have been outlined to members of Newton Aycliffe Rotary Club. Derbyshire Rotarian Iain Corran travelled from the fringe of the Peak District to introduce local club members to the Dentaid box, a container holding all the key dental equipment necessary to enable a dental professional to deliver basic oral health care and emergency treatment to disadvantaged people anywhere in the developing world. He also showed film of the Rotary-designed Aquabox which contains equipment to produce clean drinking water from dirty streams and rivers and which has brought the gift of life to people affected by natural or man-made disasters in countries around the world, giving the gift of life to families Iain was introduced by Rtn Ron Eyley and thanked by Rtn Pat Pickersgill. Ron was guest speaker the previous week and entertained members with a collection of stories about journalistic mishaps and adventures when he trained as a junior reporter on a Midlands county newspaper. He was introduced by Rtn John Burrows and thanked by President Nora Scott. If you want more information on Rotary and its charitable work contact e-mail: syd@newtonpress.net
