Aldi opened its latest store in Newton Aycliffe on Thursday 8th November.
Jean Jones, who starred as the tea lady in Aldi’s award winning TV advert and who lives on the outskirts of the town, opened the store and greeted the store’s first customers.
Shoppers will find an extensive range of 1,400 product lines at affordable prices. Aldi prides itself on the high quality of its produce, so shoppers can expect fresh, locally sourced food.
The opening of the store has created 20 jobs within the local community. Area Manager, Pippa Baker, comments: “After seven months of preparation, we’re now ready to welcome customers into our new store, one of several opened across County Durham.
Aldi’s ‘Specialbuys’ days occur every Thursday and Sunday offering customers fantastic savings on a range of electrical and household products.
‘Specialbuys’ include Portable Twinscreen DVD Players for £34.99 each, a Free-to-Air Satellite System for £19.99, cordless hammer drills for £9.99 each and bottles of 12 year old Glen Marnoch Whisky for £8.99.
The new store on Greenwell Road, will be open: Monday – Saturday 8.00am – 9.00pm, Sunday 10.00am – 4.00pm.
Aldi contacted Newton News too late for us to inform readers about the opening date and offers.
They did not seek to involve our community leaders either, nevertheless our Mayor Val Raw said she was pleased the new store had opened, offering townspeople a wider choice of shopping.
