Great Aycliffe’s new Team Rector, Rev. Chris Pearson, was formally inducted by the Bishop of Durham at St. Clare’s Church last Sunday.
In a long Service the packed congregation, including our Mayor, Deputy Chairman of the County Council and representatives from town churches, witnessed the ceremony which carried the ancient rite of installing a new priest in charge of the Parish of Great Aycliffe.
The formality of the occasion was lightened somewhat by the lighthearted approach of Bishop Paul Butler and that part of the Service where the Shine Children’s Choir performed to tumultuous applause.
In his sermon the Bishop encouraged everyone to “Attempt great things for God and expect great things from God”. He returned to this theme throughout, asking the congregation to memorise and recite the phrase on cue.
Afterwards everyone moved to the church hall for the usual “Bun Fight” which had been prepared by church members, providing fantastic food with ample coffee and tea for all present.
The new Rector, his wife Karin along with Bishop Paul took this opportunity to speak with people on this friendly and joyful occasion. The new Rector was left in no doubt how welcome he was as people rushed to congratulate him on his appointment.
