Supporters of Bishop Auckland Music Society can look forward both to a new season of delightful classical music and a new venue. The elegant surroundings of the Methodist Church on Cockton Hill Road, directly opposite the Hospital, with easy access and parking, will play host for the 2019 season which begins on Friday, 22nd March when pianist Sarah Beth Briggs, described as ‘an artist of extraordinary magnetism’, performs works by Bach, Mozart and Ravel amongst others.
Charlotte Ashton (flute) and Joseph Havlat (piano) will perform works by Bach, Schubert and Debussy on Friday, 3rd May, followed by The Pomegranate Trio on Friday, 7th June. Since first forming in 2014, the trio, Fenella Barton (violin), Rebecca Hepplewhite (cello) and Andrew West (piano), has quickly established a reputation for fine performance and works by Schuman, Ravel and Beethoven can be enjoyed at the evening concert.
On Friday, 19th July, Beethoven’s Horn Sonata in F major and works by Scriabin, Richard Strauss and Schubert will feature in the repertoire of the 2016 BBC Young Musician Competitor, horn player Ben Goldscheider, accompanied by pianist, Richard Uttley.
The season culminates with a performance by Alexandra Lomeiko (violin) and Antonina Suhanova (piano) on Friday, 6th September. A winner of multiple National awards and a solo recitalist at Wigmore Hall, Alexandra will play work by Grieg, Bartok and Beethoven.
Individual concert tickets are £13.50 if purchased in advance (£15 on the door).
