Bishop Auckland Christmas Town is cancelled

Friday 6th, Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th December

Following close contact with the Met Office, Christmas Town organisers Baccanalia and Bridge Creative have put in place closure plans to cancel Bishop Auckland Christmas Town from tomorrow, Friday 6th December. This difficult decision has been made with everyone’s safety in mind.

Christmas Town will be open as usual tonight from 3-8pm (Thursday) and the team urges everyone to come along and celebrate one last evening of festive fun for 2024. From 7:30pm, the giant tipis will be open for Bandaoke (free) and it will be the last chance to enjoy all the attractions before the weekend closures.

If you have tickets booked for Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, you are welcome to use them tonight. Upon arrival, simply visit the box office to exchange your tickets for a valid slot.

For those unable to attend tonight, the team kindly ask for your patience as they work through the necessary processes with insurance providers. They do intend to issue refunds; however, this will take some time as they liaise with contractors and staff to ensure all commitments are met.

Thomas Wales, Managing Director of Baccanalia said, “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the cancellation of Bishop Auckland’s Christmas Town this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday due to the severe weather conditions brought by Storm Darragh. Ensuring the safety of our visitors, staff, and community is our utmost priority, and while this decision is devastating after a year of planning, it is the right one under the circumstances. We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone for working with us on this years’ event, it’s been fantastic so far, and we are proud of the event we have curated.”

Ben Tinkler, Managing Director of Bridge Creative said, “It’s with great regret that we have to cancel Christmas Town this coming weekend but sadly the weather is against us. We have no option but to end all attractions and events from tomorrow (Friday) onwards with the main priority to keep everyone safe. We are devastated to end this year’s Christmas Town short of its full glory.”

Christmas Town is produced by Baccanalia and Bridge Creative and continues to thrive thanks to the generous support of its principal partner, Bishop Auckland Town Council, sponsor Bishop Auckland College, and partnerships with local businesses and organisations.
