Pupils at Aycliffe Village Primary School have been involved with a Scheme called ‘Bike It’ which encourages the pupils to use their bicycles or scooters instead of cars to make journeys in the locality.
The pupils have enjoyed workshops where they learn to care for their bikes and maintain them properly. The school has hosted ‘Bike It Breakfasts’ where pupils have been encouraged to cycle to school and have a breakfast in school once they get here.
Some of the Pupils in Year 5 are Bike it Officers. These pupils help organise the activities that all pupils get involved in.
In our most recent activity, a competition to ‘Bling your Bike’, pupils were encourage to decorate their bikes and scooters. Here we have the winners of the competition, Jamie, Joshua and Leo. These pupils won the local heat and were entered into the County wide competition. Cycle usage has increased as a result of the initiative.
