A number of pupils from Aycliffe Village School went on a bike ride with their Head Teacher Mr Gargan and a member of Sustrans called Rio.  All the children brought their bikes into school early in the morning and were given a ‘free’ breakfast to set them on their way. During the morning Rio checked the bikes to make sure they were safe.

The ride started at 1pm when children prepared for their ride with helmet and hi-visibility jackets. Their ride took them past Linde Castle, The Gretna and up towards Woodham.

Photographs of the event were taken by Sustrans whilst en route. Naryse Cox commented to her friend Emba Cairns “I love this bike ride as it gives us lot of exercise.”

At about 3.10pm the children returned to the school quite exhausted from their experience but they found the day fun and would like to do this again. So the class would like all children to take up the chance if offered in the future, as it’s good for your health and a lot of fun!
