Dear Sir,
In recent decades the world bee population has declined drastically.
This may sound like a good thing to some who fear their sting, or are allergic to it, but in reality it is far from being good. Bees and other pollinators such as birds, bats and insects affect 35% of the world’s crop production, increasing outputs in 87 of the leading food crops and plant derived medicines. (Food and Agriculture Organisation of the UN).
This decline has come about for various reasons including the use of pesticides and fungicides, climate change and loss of habitat. We need to act now in any way we can to halt this decline and ensure our own future by helping them.
Ways that we can help are by cutting the use of chemicals, buying local honey, building a bee box and planting bee friendly flowers and shrubs.
This Bank Holiday Monday, May 3rd, we will be holding a Bee Bombing fun event for children in Woodham Park, 10.00am-1.00pm, to improve the wildlife habitat and encourage pollinators in our area.
Please come along and have some fun whilst helping us to help the environment. A few minutes of your time could make a significant, permanent difference, to our wildlife and ecology!
This event is free of charge and will follow government guidelines for social distancing.
Hosted by Stephanie Heselton and the Pemberton Pickers.
