Woodham Academy Humanities department (History, Geography and RE) took Year 7 students to Beamish Museum on a school Specialist Day, a day where students are able to have educational experiences they would not have in the classroom.
Whilst there, students explored the various sites, including the mine and mining village. In the mining village they experienced education as it would have been 100 years ago, which turned out to be very different from what they are used to today.
At the town, the big draw was the sweetshop, where lots of students mysteriously developed blue tongues. They also had the opportunity to visit the funfair which, on such a beautiful day, was very popular.
Although nothing like the “white knuckle” rides we might find today, a ride on a carousel, a swing boat or a turn at the coconut shy proved a most enjoyable experience. When asked for their opinion of the day, students described it as “The Best Trip ever!” and wanted to know when they could do it again!
