Dear Sir,
I am sure I am not the only Newtonian fed up with MP Phil Willon’s constant hi-jacking of credit for Hitachi choosing Aycliffe for its factory site.
The reality is that Hitachi chose this area to build their factory regardless of the MP. The ridiculous publication put through my door boasted “We did it” in bold headlines. Who is the “We”? He didn’t do it nor did we, it was Hitachi who made the decision for sound business reasons and the voting public know this – they are not fools!
Phil Wilson also made a big play about opposing Eon, but his publicity seeking on this issue has made things worse. According to the campaign group TICTAC we now face the prospect of extra large turbines because Eon has been forced, in part by the MP, to reduce the number of turbines.
If the TICTAC leaflet is correct we now have the worst of both worlds with turbines much higher than the orignal ones planned and much more invasive on the lives of residents, with his meddling for votes achieving very little.
The wind farm will go ahead and Hitachi will make their own decisions – not those in the local M.P.’s office. Supporting jobs is the right thing to do but what we are seeing from our MP is naked opportunism.
