Entrants in a pirate-themed charity stroll are set to receive a goody bag full of treasure thanks to a local shopping centre. 350 drawstring bags have been donated by the Cornmill Centre, Darlington, to be filled with a bounty of pirate treats for women taking part in the St Teresa’s Hospice Midnight Walk on Friday 19 May.
The sponsored event is now in its tenth year and has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for the Hospice, which provides care and support to people across South Durham & North Yorkshire.
The Cornmill Centre first adopted St Teresa’s Hospice as its nominated charity in 2003, and caring staff have raised over £117,000 since then, as well as donating prizes and other items.
Kelly Hutchinson, Admin Manager, said: “St Teresa’s Hospice is a cause which is close to our hearts and we’re glad to be able to support the Midnight Walk this year. We wanted to give something back to all those lovely ladies who are taking part to raise funds for such an important service.”
Walkers will undertake a new 2.8k route through Darlington’s South Park, with the age restriction now lowered to 11 so that more supporters can join in. The walk will get underway at 10pm, with pirate themed activities until Midnight.
St Teresa’s Hospice Chief Executive Jane Bradshaw said: “It’s so good to see local businesses helping to make Midnight Walk 2017 a success. We have been fortunate to have had support from the Cornmill Centre for so long and I’m thrilled that they can get involved in what looks set to be another fantastic event.”
Registration for Midnight Walk costs £10 per person, with entrants asked to try and raise £50 sponsorship money for the Hospice. Entry is via www.darlingtonhospice.org.uk or call (01325) 254321 for a form
