Games were few & far between this week, as the pitches continued to recover, but some exciting games got the go-ahead!
Marton FC Whites v Aycliffe U7 Eagles
Another cup game against a team two leagues above. The boys played fantastically on a terrible playing surface. Some good attacking play resulted in goals from Luke and Mason. Unfortunately, that wasn’t quite enough as Marton FC narrowly beat us. The boys should be proud as they didn’t look out of place against a higher-placed team. Well done lads.
Washington Lionesses v Aycliffe U11 Girls
A very evenly matched game for the girls. A first half corner found Poppy, a quick 1-2 and she scored from a tight angle. After a lot of shots, Phoebe managed to get a goal to take the lead again. Finally, after some good build-up play in midfield, Poppy travelled with the ball into the box and scored to get her second & the girls’ third.
Foundation of Light Back Cats v Aycliffe U11 Eagles
Two evenly matched teams, the game started as a midfield battle with both teams capable of playing some nice football and breaking into dangerous areas. FoL took the lead but Teni scored straight from a corner to get Aycliffe back in the game. FoL then took the lead again but, with 3 minutes left to play, Oliver scored. An exciting end to the game, which saw both teams share the points.
Beamish Lionesses 4 v Aycliffe U14 Angels 5
A great game, that we controlled for most of the 70 minutes, but ended with a tense finish. We were 3-0 up at half time, but Beamish pulled the game back and scored their 4th near the end, but we saw it out. Romilly scored all five of our goals and was the players’ star player, with Poppy as the coaches’ star.
Trimdon Utd v Aycliffe U9 Eagles
Defeat on a difficult pitch this week. The boys started brightly, taking the lead thanks to some tenacious work from Teddie up front. The pitch didn’t help the team clear Trimdon’s attacks throughout the game, but we struggled and conceded a couple of goals from corners. The score was probably fair, but slightly flattered Trimdon as the Eagles did create chances and could have scored again.
