Newton Aycliffe Youth Seniors 5 v New Durham AFC 0
Cup action last weekend for the seniors against a side who play in the league above us and we made five changes from the previous week’s line up.
We started against the wind, but we learnt our lesson and dealt with the aerial ball and took the lead when a Reed Molloy free kick was nodded in by Niall Douglas for his first goal of the season.
Durham couldn’t cope with our football and started trying to kick lumps out of our players to try and get a reaction, we kept our cool but unfortunately the Ref was poor and did not protect the players.
Jack Mortimer added our second when Camma went on a run past four players, his miss hit shot fell to Jack who tucked it past the keeper.
2-0 half time.
We knew in the second half we would have the better of the conditions but also knew Durham would come out strong as their manger was upset with them.
We nullified their threat, Jimmy replaced Jack and some nice football set Jimmy away 1v1 against the keeper and he slotted home.
We made a couple more substitutions, one of these, Jon Hardy, received the ball down the right, turned on the after burners leaving the opposition for dead, his squared ball was tapped in by Mason Steed.
Not long after, Mason added his second, and our fifth, when Jimmy fed the ball into him.
There was still time for us to go close again with the best moment seeing Adam Wright smashing his shot against the post. 17 out of the 18 squad got a game as one of our substitutes was nursing an injury.
We are through to the next round of cup.
MOM: Callum Thomson.
